Speech Language Pathologist Assistant


 A vacancy exists for a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant supporting our PUF/Pre-K and possibly Kindergarten classrooms across the Division, with a job allocation of 0.5 FTE working approximately 17.5 hours/week, with the possibility of increased hours. Flexibility required with a combination of mornings and afternoons. This position commences on August 28, 2023. Grid Level 6. Transportation required.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Inclusive Learning Services, the Early Learning Consultant and/or the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist, this position provides pervasive support for students who have severe speech and/or language delays, disabilities or severe medical diagnoses. The primary focus is to work directly with children, school staff and families to provide support for a range of needs that impact classroom/academic functioning, speech and language development and behavior.

EDUCATION:
A Speech-Language Pathology Assistant/Rehabilitation diploma from a recognized institution or equivalent experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning and implementing programs/strategies with specific children and/or groups of children within the classroom environment or one-on-one as outlined by the SLP and classroom staff.

. Completing specific, assigned interventions with identified students.

Developing materials related to varied programs/strategies as determined by the Speech-Language Pathologist.

Providing support to families by assisting with home program materials and modeling strategies as needed.

Assisting with the development, maintenance and implementation of Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) and Assistive Technology as assigned by the Speech-Language Pathologist.

Completing Family-Oriented-Programming (FOP) visits and/or workshops as required.

Maintaining appropriate records, data, student progress notes and response to current program/strategies.

Modelling and reviewing instructional strategies and supports with the school team as appropriate.

Attending and participating in team meetings, conferences and professional development activities, as determined by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.

Working collaboratively with other team members to implement strategies.

Providing traioing and support to school team members to help support intervention strategies as directed by the Early Learning Consultant or Speech-Language Pathologist.

Performing other related duties.
